This digital art print of Saint Valentine is the perfect addition to your home decor or a great gift for birthdays, St. Valentine's Day, weddings, or Christmas.
Did you know there were two or possibly even three St. Valentines? Little is known about them individually, so it is easy to see how over the years their particular histories evolved into the single saint that we know today. One of these saints was a Roman priest, another was a bishop in Italy, and the third was a saint who suffered with his companions in the Roman province of Africa.
The Valentine we celebrate today ministered to persecuted Christians, but most people know him better as the patron saint of love, couples, and happy marriages!
The modern practice of sending valentines on this day originates from an embellished story where Valentine sent a note to his jailer’s daughter which was signed “from your Valentine.” He also earned the reputation for a champion of love when in the 3rd century it was said that he would perform secret weddings for couples, especially for men who were trying to avoid conscription. He would remind the men of their vows by cutting hearts from parchment, which is why we decorate our valentines with hearts.
